Validation of the PRODOC for GEF Project 11966: Focus on West and Centre Regions to Restore Landscapes

The validation workshop for the project document was held on 7 July 2026 in Yaoundé. It focused on GEF Project ID 11966: Strengthening Community-Based Landscape Management and Nature-Based Solutions to Restore Degraded Ecosystems and Promote Livelihood Resilience in the West and Centre Regions of Cameroon.

The workshop was chaired by Mr. Hélé Pierre, Minister of Environment, Nature Protection and Sustainable Development.

In his address, the MINEPDED highlighted the importance of the project for ecosystem restoration and for securing the livelihoods of local populations. He called for community ownership of the actions and for the implementation of nature-based approaches.

Speaking next, Mr. ETIENNE Ngiegang Regional Delegate of MINEPDED for the West Region, presented the specificities of his region. He stressed the need to strengthen efforts to combat pressures on landscapes and to mobilize communities and local councils around the project objectives.

The project provides for differentiated interventions. In the West Region, priority is given to combating degradation. In the Centre Region, the focus is on addressing forest issues and human footprint, with strong involvement of local populations.

With the validation of this PRODOC, Cameroon now has an operational framework to combine ecosystem restoration with livelihood resilience in the West and Centre regions.
